Henk van Limburg, one of our readers, shared with us his personal experience regarding his collection of coffee makers. His passion started in the 80s in the european flea markets. Below, we share his experience and part of his personal collection.

The collection of coffee makers

“As a 16-year-old boy in the 1980s, I went to flea markets with my boyfriend. He collected old radios, and I enjoyed going with him.

What struck me at the time was the abundance of coffee makers at the flea markets… often dirty, broken, and incomplete, but also once in new or mint condition.

I knew from my grandmother that good filter coffee makers (such as Douwe Egberts coffee makers) were very good, but also very expensive.

That’s why I started keeping an eye on these flea markets and started buying them, often for no more than 5 guilders.

This has resulted in a now-unique collection of coffee makers.

I also started to enjoy collecting them… the first type of filter coffee maker ever sold in the Netherlands (my home country).

My collection now includes everything from the first Wigomat delivered by Douwe Egberts in the Netherlands (in 1963), brand new in its original packaging, to the “newest” machine in my collection (a Philips coffee maker from 1975).”
