{"id":202426,"date":"2025-10-28T00:35:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T23:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.comunicaffe.com\/?p=202426"},"modified":"2025-10-28T12:31:55","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T11:31:55","slug":"global-coffee-awards-recognizes-the-best-roasters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.comunicaffe.com\/global-coffee-awards-recognizes-the-best-roasters\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Coffee Awards recognizes the best roasters in coffee-producing countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MILAN &#8211; The <strong>Global Coffee Awards<\/strong> (GCA) has recognized the best specialty coffee roasters based in producing countries around the world, celebrating roasting excellence and the producers behind each coffee.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Origin edition was held on October 1 in Houston, Texas, and brought together roasteries from the Americas, Africa, and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The Overall Regional Winner, Casa Landino from Bogota, Colombia, earned the title of Best Roaster in a Producing Country.<\/p>\n<h3>How did the competition work?<\/h3>\n<p>All coffees were blind-judged by an international panel of experts, including certified Q graders and professionals with experience in the Cup of Excellence and World Barista Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Each coffee was evaluated across multiple categories: Filter, Espresso, Flat White (Dairy), and Flat White (Alternative Milk), using an objective and transparent scoring system designed to provide constructive, actionable feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Each participant received individualized feedback from judges, including roast development suggestions, sensory notes, and food pairing recommendations, supporting professional growth and continuous improvement across the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an industry, we rarely recognize roasters in producing countries, and that\u2019s what makes this edition so valuable,\u201d said Jayson Galvis, two-time Cup of Excellence international lead judge and Lead Judge for the GCA Origin competition. \u201cIt highlights the excellence happening at origin and the people driving it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Market insights and trends<\/h3>\n<p>The Origin competition highlighted the diversity and innovation of roasting at origin, with entries from Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Vietnam, and India, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The Filter category once again proved the most popular, reflecting the growing appreciation for pour-over and filter coffee culture in producing countries.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional washed and honey-processed coffees remained dominant, while a rising number of experimental lots, including anaerobic and carbonic fermentations, showcased a new level of craftsmanship and sensory exploration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoasters at origin are redefining what it means to add value locally,\u201d said Henry Wilson, Founder of the Global Coffee Awards. \u201cThey\u2019re building stronger brands, creating jobs, and keeping more of the coffee story within their own countries. The quality we\u2019re seeing is world-class.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Top winners<\/h3>\n<p>Overall winner: Casa Landino in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia<\/p>\n<p>Category winners:<\/p>\n<p>Filter \u2013 Casa Landino<br \/>\nEspresso \u2013 Galani Coffee in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia<br \/>\nFlat White Dairy \u2013 DeLa Finca Specialty Coffee in Managua, Nicaragua<br \/>\nFlat White Alternative \u2013 Caf\u00e9 de las Nubes in Alvarado, Mexico<br \/>\nAll Category Gold Medalists will advance to the Global Finals, held at Producer &amp; Roaster Forum (PRF) El Salvador on March 26\u201327, 2026, where they will compete for the title of World\u2019s Best Roaster.<br \/>\nYou can find all the Origin category and subcategory winners here.<\/p>\n<h3>Recognizing producers behind every winning coffee<\/h3>\n<p>The GCA team reverse-engineered every winning coffee to identify and credit the producer behind it.
